What children love in Sri Lanka
Elephants from a jeep, monkeys in the temple trees, turtles at a hatchery, the open doors of the hill-country train, and fresh king coconuts on the roadside. Most children adapt quickly to the food – plain rice, dhal, fried noodles and endless fruit are always available – and the people are wonderfully warm with families.
Planning a family holiday in Sri Lanka
We plan family routes with short driving days – usually no more than three hours – and two or three nights in each place, so children can settle in. Hotels have pools and family rooms or connecting rooms. Activities are chosen to keep all ages interested: safaris, a train ride, a turtle hatchery, a spice garden, easy walks and time on the beach.
Your driver-guide becomes part of the family trip, often a favourite with children. Child seats are available on request, and our team can arrange a babysitter at many hotels.
Best time for a family holiday
UK families often travel at February half-term or Easter, when the south and west coasts are at their best, or in July and August with a route that ends on the calm east coast. The Christmas holidays are busy; book early.
Family holiday questions

Children sharing with parents are cheaper – the price depends on age and hotel. You get it in your proposal.
Yes. The biggest risks are the sun and the traffic, which is why a driver is essential.
